Create website testing procedures

Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to design and implement procedures, which measure the performance of a website, and compare these procedures to the initial design specifications.

It applies to individuals who may use significant judgement in planning, design, evaluation, technical or leadership and communications functions in frontline technical support roles.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1. Document and define the performance criteria

1.1 Review the performance specifications and determine the benchmark criteria

1.2 Validate and document the performance functions

1.3 Select the measurement methodology, and test it on the website

1.4 Validate each performance function separately

1.5 Record and document the metric tools, using the appropriate methodology

1.6 Prepare the performance benchmarks, and seek agreement on the criteria with the client

2. Validate the performance measures

2.1 Develop inspection and test plans, in order to validate performance measures throughout the performance cycle

2.2 Test the performance functions, and record the results, according to technical documentation standards

2.3 Compare the results of performance function testing to benchmark

2.4 Redesign functions that do not meet the appropriate performance benchmarks

2.5 Re-implement functions that have been redesigned during performance testing

2.6 Document the benchmarks and obtain sign-off

3. Obtain sign-off

3.1 Validate and document, performance standards and benchmarks

3.2 Submit the methodology and function testing document, and results, to the client for approval

3.3 Review client comments and make changes, as appropriate

3.4 Obtain sign-off for the website testing procedure

Evidence of Performance

Evidence of the ability to:

identify the critical functions to be tested

develop the appropriate metrics for each function, and assign the benchmarked performance standards

test each performance function, and compare against the appropriate benchmarks

validate the performance of the site against technical requirements

document the results, to establish performance benchmarks for subsequent development of the site.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Evidence of Knowledge

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

identify and describe the legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and standards as they relate to web testing, including:

codes of ethics

privacy

copyright

intellectual property

naming

documentation

describe the client business domain, including client organisation structure and business functionality

identify current industry-accepted hardware and software products

outline the desktop applications and operating systems, as required by organisational guidelines

describe queuing systems, workload metrics, and user request classes

describe the key features, and use of, a standard generalised markup language (SGML) and its associated standards

explain standard web-testing procedures and optimisation tools

outline website design methodologies and standard website structures.

Assessment Conditions

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the website technologies field of work, and include access to:

analysis software

the e-business website

industry standards, and organisational guidelines

site design and technical requirements documentation

site-development software and tools.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Foundation Skills

This section describes language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills incorporated in the performance criteria that are required for competent performance.

Skill

Performance Criteria

Description

Reading

1.1-1.6, 2.1-2.5, 3.1, 3.3

Evaluates, integrates, and confirms the authenticity of the data and information, to reach an understanding of the contextual and procedural nature of business solutions

Writing

1.2, 1.5, 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, 2.6, 3.1-3.3, 3.4

Develops and documents benchmark standards, performance plans, measurements, and detailed results, and recommendations for client approval

Uses the appropriate formats and writing principles, in accordance with technical standards and organisational conventions

Oral Communication

1.6, 2.6, 3.2-3.4

Participates in complex verbal exchanges with clients that require active listening and responses to questions, to elicit relevant and specific information, and to obtain feedback, and consensus

Numeracy

1.1-1.6, 2.1-2.6, 3.1

Measures and evaluates performance, against established baseline numerical values

Navigate the world of work

2.2, 2.6

Takes personal responsibility for following explicit, and implicit, organisational requirements relevant to own work

Interact with others

1.6, 3.2, 3.4

Selects and uses, the appropriate conventions and protocols, when communicating in a range of familiar work contexts

Get the work done

1.3, 1.4, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3

Uses analytical thinking, systematic decision- making and diagnostic processes, to determine, implement and evaluate, testing and validation processes

Understands the purposes, specific functions and the key features of common digital systems, tools and software, and operates them effectively, to perform testing procedures to meet requirements
